Researchers from CSU predict an above-average Atlantic hurricane season with 19 named storms in 2022

If you have been thinking that there seem to be a lot more storms each year than what you remembered in the past – unfortunately you are right.  And, according to a recent article in the Washington Post – 2022 is setting up to be another above average year for storm activity.

A recent study published by researchers at Colorado State University indicates their observation of large scale features of the atmosphere and the ocean are forecasting 19 named storms in 2022 for the Atlantic Hurricane season.

“The team predicts that 2022 hurricane activity will be about 130% of the average season from 1991-2020,” the forecast from Colorado State University indicates “By comparison, 2021’s hurricane activity was about 120% of the average season.”

The outlook further states:

“As is the case with all hurricane seasons, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them.”
